We had 40 women and a lot of ground to cover in a short time. Once again, I was blown away by the power of the written word. I stressed to the group that of everything they wanted to strive for in their writing, authenticity was the most important. Without that, don’t even bother to write. Sometimes, it’s painful or scary to be honest with oneself. We may feel that if we are honest in our writing about our lives, we won’t be respected or admired or even have a story worth telling. The opposite is true. If we aren’t honest and authentic in the telling, we have no story to tell at all. This morning, I remember those words and I think of writing as symbolic of our lives: If we aren’t honest and authentic in the living, we diminish the possibility of everything our lives can be. We may be fraught with misgivings, misconceptions, fears. They are part of us. But in many cases, they can lead to the greatest joy, accomplishments, and growth of our lives.  –Renee
